Sewing Tips

For best results with faux fur we use a ‘walking foot’ machine which pulls through both sides at the same time – if you don’t have a walking foot machine, you will have perfect results if you pin, pin, pin – then pin again! - To keep the 2 sides of the fur from slipping.

We recommend pinning on both sides of where you are going to sew – sew in the centre of the 2 rows of pins and use a denim needle if possible (size 14/16 is perfect ) as they are much less likely to break. Faux Fur is very forgiving but does become very thick at the seams. An ordinary needle is fine – just be prepared to ‘walk’ the machine through any thick seams.

Please pull through all the fibres to the right side at the seams BEFORE you trim the seams or you may trim the fur and end up with a noticeable cut edge on the right side. We use specialist tools but a good sturdy fork will work well.
